The remoteness of our region, the lack of landing strips, and the limited availability of other emergency air ambulance helicopters was the inspiration for HALO Air Ambulance to dream of the day when we would have an air ambulance helicopter dedicated to Southern Alberta. Following years of planning and fundraising, HALO flew its first life-saving mission on July 4, 2007.
HALO Air Ambulance is Southern Alberta's only dedicated Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) Program. Since our first mission in 2007, HALO Air Ambulance has flown thousands of missions, impacting countless lives.
Partnering with provincial and regional stakeholders, HALO responds to a variety of calls for service, including our; scene call emergencies, critical care inter-facility patient transfers, search and rescue, fire rescue, and law enforcement incidents.
The availability of the helicopter, strategically based in Medicine Hat, Alberta, improves the response time to critically ill or injured patients in remote and inaccessible areas and increases our capacity for delivering qualitative medical care and rescue services.
HALO is governed by a highly-skilled, passionate, and diverse volunteer Board of Directors who work tirelessly to keep HALO 'in flight for your life'.
HALO is led by our Chief Executive Officer and supported by two additional paid positions; a Development Associate, and a Financial Administrator.
Our aviation partner, Rangeland Helicopters Inc. manages flight operations, led by Les Little.
