Louis Wallace
HEMS Pilot
Louis's Story.
Born in Hong Kong and raised across Europe, Louis completed his early education in The Netherlands and the UK before earning his degree at Newcastle University. Aviation runs deep in his family; his grandfather flew Spitfires during the Second World War. For Louis, the defining moment came in 2012, when his own life was saved by a French mountain rescue helicopter in the Alps, inspiring him to pursue a career as a pilot.
Louis served in the military, where he gained extensive experience in night vision flying—his favorite type of flying—and developed the planning and readiness skills essential for air ambulance missions. One of his final military postings brought him to CFB Suffield, where he flew the first (and last, due to regulations and COVID) single-engine military flight to the rooftop of Medicine Hat Hospital. After leaving the military, he returned to the area as a civilian pilot and joined HALO, continuing his work in rescue aviation where his journey first began.
When not in the cockpit, Louis embraces Canada’s seasons through outdoor pursuits with his family; skiing, snowshoeing, and winter activities, as well as mountain biking, hiking, and paragliding in the summer.
A fun fact about Louis: he believes he is a direct descendant of William Wallace...yes, the figure depicted in Braveheart.
Louis is proud to be part of HALO’s growing operation and is committed to ensuring that, whether on a calm day in the community or during a life-saving mission, he delivers the very best care and service to Southern Alberta.
