Michaela's Story.
Michaela Frey is a consultant based in Medicine Hat who works with nonprofits and businesses to solve complex problems, build meaningful connections, and help organizations achieve their goals in government relations and communications. She owns and operates her own consulting business and is often called upon by larger firms to support high-impact projects.
With more than ten years of experience in government and small business, Michaela brings a strong background in governance, public affairs, and communications to the HALO board. She previously served as the MLA for Brooks-Medicine Hat and as a Senior Advisor to the Premier. During her time in office, she played a key role in securing permanent government funding for HALO Air Ambulance — something she’s still deeply proud of.
Her connection to HALO goes beyond her professional life. Michaela has long admired HALO for the way it brings people together to meet the unique healthcare needs of rural Southern Alberta. She believes HALO’s strength lies in its community roots and its unwavering commitment to innovation and efficiency — making the most of every donor dollar to save lives.
Today, as a board member and part of the Governance Committee, Michaela is passionate about fundraising, storytelling, and helping ensure HALO is in the air for generations to come. She considers it a privilege to serve alongside such dedicated staff and volunteers.
Outside of her board role, Michaela is a proud wife and mom, and a self-proclaimed “snack wench” to her beloved golden retriever, Lulu. She loves golfing (regardless of score), baking, and soaking up the sunshine on Medicine Hat’s many trails.
When asked to sum up HALO in one word, Michaela chose “innovative” — because no matter the challenge, HALO finds a way forward.
“We couldn’t do what we do without you. Thank you for helping us serve Southeastern Alberta.”
