Shauna VanderSpruit

Director, Board of Directors

Shauna's Story.

Shauna brings a deep-rooted passion for rural communities and a lifelong commitment to service. With a background spanning nonprofit leadership and rural education governance, she’s held roles that have allowed her to connect with people, support local initiatives, and champion meaningful causes across Southern Alberta.

Throughout her career, from trustee work in rural education to hands-on involvement in community outreach, Shauna has developed a strong understanding of the importance of accessible care, particularly in remote areas. Her experience in communications, community engagement, and organizational support makes her a valued contributor to the HALO Board of Directors.

Shauna was inspired to join the board because of her belief in the power of community-led solutions and her deep respect for the work HALO does. In her words, HALO isn’t just about emergency response, it’s about equity in healthcare and making sure geography doesn’t determine the level of care a person receives.

On the Board, Shauna plays an active role supporting HALO’s communications and engagement efforts, lending her time and energy to raise awareness and strengthen the organization’s connection with the people it serves. She’s particularly passionate about sharing HALO’s story and ensuring rural voices are heard and supported.

Outside of her professional and volunteer work, Shauna enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, and continues to stay connected to the values that shaped her growing up in a rural community.

When asked to sum up HALO in one word, she chose “essential.”

“To everyone who supports HALO - Thank you. Your generosity truly makes a life-saving difference and we couldn’t do it without you.”
