Brenda Lea MacPhail

Director, Board of Directors

Brenda's Story.

Brenda Lea has dedicated more than forty years to volunteer service, contributing her time and leadership to numerous organizations. Inspired by her parents’ example, she has long believed that volunteering is about strengthening an organization and advancing its mission, never pursuing a personal agenda. Throughout her service, she has frequently held the role of president or chair, providing steady governance and collaborative leadership.

In Medicine Hat, Brenda Lea has been actively involved with the Medicine Hat Christian School Parent Society, St. Mary’s Fine Arts Academy Council, McCoy Safe Grad, the Medicine Hat Symphonic Society, the Chamber of Commerce, the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta, the Root Cellar, the Medicine Hat Health Foundation, KidSport, and the Medicine Hat Pickleball Club.

She also served as Chair of the Southern Alberta MedicAir Society Board for several years, where she was instrumental in early discussions with Alberta Health regarding the addition of helicopters to southern Alberta’s emergency services operations - experience that directly informs her commitment to HALO’s mission.

Born in Calgary and raised on an acreage at Chestermere Lake, Brenda Lea has long understood the realities facing rural Albertans. Her professional experience as a District Home Economist with Alberta Agriculture further deepened that perspective, as she worked closely with farm families across the region. This combination of lived and professional experience has brought her full circle to HALO. She is a strong advocate for ensuring that those living and working in remote parts of the province have access to the same timely emergency care as those closer to urban centres.

Brenda Lea and her husband, Ken, enjoy travelling, playing pickleball, and, most importantly, spending time with their family.
